Keep Your Family Informed On Your New House Addition

h11Building an addition onto any home is a fun and exciting process. One of the best parts of adding onto a home is keeping your family informed of the progress of the addition.

For families with children it’s important to make the children feel like they are a part of the process by letting them watch how the home addition develops from start to finish. Explain to the them the various stages of construction, take them outside and let them watch the contractors use construction equipment like backhoes or bulldozers and encourage them to ask the contractors questions so they better understand how a home is built.

Create A Timeline

Sometimes the home addition process can seem like it takes forever and that the contractors are not completing the project as quickly as possible. To make the home addition project go by quicker create a timeline for major parts of the home addition like getting the foundation poured, having the frame built, the tresses for the roof installed, electrical wired etc. When each new milestone is completed you can check that milestone off the list and share with your family members the excitement as the home addition is getting closer to completion and reality.

Take Pictures & Video

Taking pictures and video is an important part of the home addition process because it will allow you to document the contractors work and share with relatives who live in other parts of the country the progress of your home addition.

Other ways to keep your family informed on the progress of your home addition are creating a website to chart the progress of the home addition, posting the pictures or video on websites like Facebook or YouTube and using email to send out progress updates as well.

Adding onto any home can be a sometimes frustrating experience but getting family involved and sharing the progress with them you can make the process memorable and enjoyable. You can always take a smaller project on first, such as build a porch.
